Safety First!

The skid plates can be installed on the ground, but if you do decide to jack up your truck to get more room for the install ALWAYS use jack stands. Never go underneath your truck on jacks alone.
2

Vehicle Preparation for Skid Plate Install

The first step is to remove any factory skid plates or felt covers. Depending on the model of F-150 there may be some factory installed clip nuts and bolts in the locations used to mount our skid plates. You can re-use these if you like, they are M10 bolts and ours are 3/8" Grade 8 bolts so do NOT mix our bolts with factory clip nuts. We suggest you replace all factory clip nuts with our stronger spring steel clip nuts and grade 8 bolts.
3

Front Steel Brackets Prep

Before we install the front two mounting brackets we want to install the provided 3/8 clip nuts on the brackets. The barrel side of the clip nut will be on the backside and installed on both the left and right bracket as shown below. It can be useful to use a small hammer to tap these clip nuts into place. The retaining clip on the clip nut will snap into place when centered over the hole on the brackets.

Front Bracket Installation

The 3/8" clip nuts will need to be installed in your frame rails prior to mounting the brackets. The front location (closest to bumper) circled in red below will need a clip nuts. If you have a non-turbo engine you will need to use (4) clip nuts, (2) per side. Insert them through the square hole in the frame and push until they snap into place over the smaller circle hole. These brackets will be installed now on the frame rail. On the ecoboost models you will remove the bolt for the intercooler support bracket one side at a time. If you remove both sides the intercooler will drop down and could damage the hoses. Once the bolt is removed install one clip nut in the bolt location in front of the intercooler mount location. See image below for locations. Install with factory bolt on intercooler and provided 3/8 bolt and washer in front, leave loosely tightened for now so bracket can slide side to side. Pro Tip: Using a flat head screwdriver and a small hammer can make installing the clip nuts a breeze!

2WD F150 Models Only - 4x4 Skip to step 6

For the 2WD F-150 there will be an additional bracket that mounts to the two front crossmember clip nut locations shown below circled in red. Use the provided 3/8" clip nuts and the provided 3/8" bolts and washers to mount this bracket. There is a chamfer on the edge of this bracket (where the finger is pointing in the image below), the chamfered ends MUST face the rear of the vehicle. Front cross member bracket installed, as shown below. The Front and Engine skid plate will mount to the pre-installed rivet nuts on this bracket.

Engine Skid Install

Thread (2) of the provided 3/8" bolts with washers into the rear clip nuts in the location circled below. Only thread the bolts a few turns so there is plenty of thread exposed to slide the skid plates into place. Slide the rear of the engine skid onto the bolts that were just installed and while holding it up, loosely install the front (2) 3/8" bolts and washers. Bolt locations shown in the second picture below.

Front Skid Install

Slide the slotted rear end of the front skid plate onto the (2) 3/8" bolts installed in the previous step. The front skid will go on top of the engine skid. Hold the skid plate in place and hand thread the front (2) 3/8" bolts and washers into the front steel brackets (location circled below). If you are only installing the engine skid plate package you can tighten all the bolts now and your installation is complete! If you are installing additional skids leave the bolts loose for now.

Transmission Skid Plate Install

Remove any factory skid plates or felt covers and associated brackets prior to installation. If you have your engine skid plate installed this will use the rear two bolts of the engine skid (circled below). If not install the provided (2) 3/8" clip nuts in this location, then loosely thread (2) 3/8" bolts with washers into these clip nuts. On either side of the frame rail there will need to be a 3/8" clip nut installed that will align with the rear tabs on the transmission skid plate. (See CAD model pictures below)

Transmission Skid Plate Install

If installing with Juggernaut USA engine skid plate, install the front of the transmission skid plate UNDERNEATH the engine skid plate. If installing with factory FX4 or Tremor engine skid plate the front of the transmission skid must be installed ON TOP of factory engine skid plates. Slide front of transmission skid plate onto bolt installed in previous step and push back of skid plate up until the tabs on either side line up with the outside frame rail clip nuts installed in the previous step. Use the provided (2) 3/8" bolts and washers to secure the back of the skid plate.

*Powerboost Hybrid ONLY* Transmission Skid Extension Install

The Powerboost hybrid models transmission is pushed back further than other models and we provide an extension plate for these models. The first step will be to install the provided 3/8" clip nuts on to the extension plate in the orientation shown below. It is useful to use a hammer to tap these clip nuts into place as it is a tighter fit over the 1/4" thick aluminum skid plate material.

The newer models of the Powerboost Hybrid will have some heat tape and a heat shield near where the thru-bolt will be installed on the rear transmission crossmember. Using a utility knife or a screwdriver slit a hole in this heat tape so that the bolt can be pushed through.

*Powerboost Hybrid ONLY* Transfer Case Skid Install

The Powerboost frame is slightly different than the standard F150 frame. You will receive (3) thin M8 Clip nuts and (1) thick M8 clip nut. The one thick clip nut will go on the drivers side frame rail in the rear most position (circled below). The frame material is doubled up here and therefore the standard (thin) clip nut will not fit. The other (2) thin M8 Clip nuts will go in transmission crossmember where indicated below. There will be a total of (4) M8 bolts and washers that will be used to mount the transfer case skid plate. The arrow on the skid plate will face the front of the vehicle and the flange will be on the back side facing up.
