Build your van for Colorado
The Ram ProMaster is front-wheel drive with a torsion-beam rear — a great camper platform, but it builds differently than a rear- or all-wheel-drive van. A tall, loaded ProMaster wallows and catches the wind, and matched shocks and springs are what settle it down so it tracks straight and stops fighting you on the highway.
Front-wheel drive is exactly why the ProMaster makes such a good camper: no driveshaft tunnel means the flattest, lowest floor in the class, and the widest body for a bed that fits sideways. The trade is that it was never meant to leave the pavement loaded and tall, which is where the wallow and the nervous highway manners come from. We're not turning it into a rock crawler — we're making a heavy, tall FWD van ride flat, track straight, and clear a forest-service road, then protecting the underbody it now hangs lower to the ground.
Every job includes
- 2 to 3-inch lift matched to the FWD chassis
- Upgraded shocks and springs for the ride
- SumoSprings or airbags for load support
- Engine and generator skid plates, built in-house
- Load-rated tire fitment
- Post-install alignment and loaded road test
- Lifetime warranty on the labor
The ProMaster is front-wheel-drive — build it accordingly
The Ram ProMaster is the odd one out: it's front-wheel drive, with a torsion-beam rear. That's actually great for a camper — a flat floor and no driveshaft — but it means a ProMaster build is about lift spacers and springs, load support, and the right tires, not a driveline lift. A tall, loaded ProMaster wallows and catches the wind on the highway; matched shocks and springs settle it down so it tracks straight and stops fighting you.
We've built a lot of these vans — Winnebago Travato and Solis, Thor, and custom conversions. A common package is a 2 to 3-inch lift, Sumo springs for load support, upgraded shocks, load-rated all-terrains, and engine and generator skid plates, which we build in-house. Pair it with the right tires and skids and the van is composed on the road and ready for the trailhead.
