Ram TRX & RHO Skid Plates: What the Factory Plate Leaves Open.
The TRX and RHO come with a big factory front skid plate. The engine and transfer case skids behind it are small, and the transmission is left completely open.
The Ram TRX and the Ram 1500 RHO both leave the factory with a large front skid plate. Keep it. The parts behind it are where these trucks are thin.
This guide covers both trucks, because the answer is the same. They use the same factory front skid plate, and they get the same factory engine and transfer case skids behind it. Our Ram 1500 skid plates fit every year of the TRX and the RHO. Pick the TRX/RHO option.
What the factory plates cover
The front skid plate runs from the bumper down to the front crossmember. It is a real piece of armor and it stays on the truck.
The engine and transfer case skids are a different story. Both are small, and they cover much less than the front plate does.
The transmission has no skid plate at all. It sits completely exposed between the engine skid and the transfer case skid, along with the catalytic converters.
What's open behind the front plate
- Under the engine. Only a small factory skid.
- The transmission and catalytic converters. Nothing from the factory.
- The transfer case. Only a small factory skid.
On a truck built to go fast off road, that middle section of the belly is where a rock or a hard landing does the damage.
Our TRX and RHO skid plates
The TRX/RHO option leaves off our front-most plate, so you keep the factory front skid plate. Our plates start behind it and overlap it, so there is no gap.
- Engine skid plate, TRX/RHO option: our under-engine plate, behind the factory front plate.
- Transmission skid plate & cat shield: covers the transmission and the catalytic converters. Oil drain access is built in, so it stays on for oil changes. Works with the 6.2L supercharged Hemi (TRX) and the 3.0L Hurricane (RHO).
- Transfer case skid plate: covers the transfer case housing.
- Full skid plate package, TRX/RHO option: all three.
Each plate is cut from 1/4" 5052-H32 aluminum, press-brake formed and powder-coated black in our Wheat Ridge, Colorado shop. They bolt on to factory mounting points with no drilling, include all hardware and carry our Limited Lifetime Manufacturer's Warranty.

The transmission skid plate and cat shield, the piece the factory never gives you.

It covers the transmission and both catalytic converters, with oil drain access built in.

The transfer case skid plate covers the whole housing.

Frequently asked questions
Do I keep the front factory skid plate on a TRX or RHO?
Yes. Keep the front factory skid plate. The TRX/RHO option is built to go behind it, and our plates overlap it.
Are the TRX and RHO factory skid plates the same?
Yes. Both trucks use the same factory front skid plate, so the same plates from us fit both.
Does the TRX have a transmission skid plate?
No. Neither the TRX nor the RHO has a factory transmission skid plate. The transmission is completely exposed.
Which TRX years do your plates fit?
All of them.
Do I have to remove the plates to change the oil?
No. The transmission plate has oil drain access.
Do these fit a standard Ram 1500 or a Rebel?
Yes, with the All Other Trims option. See the Ram 1500 skid plate guide.
