Aluminum vs. steel — why we build in 1/4″ aluminum

Thickness does more work than material name: resistance to permanent bending scales with the square of plate thickness, so 1/4″ 5052-H32 aluminum takes a bigger hit before it stays bent than the 3/16″ steel most kits run — at about half the weight, and it never rusts. Steel’s honest advantage is surface hardness: if your truck lives on rock ledges, steel gouges less. For most owners, the thicker aluminum wins the trade.

Excellent shipping and packaging, not a scratch . I ordered on 8/10 and both items were delivered on 8/13. I installed the gas tank skid on the weekend and all brackets and hardware worked out as detailed on instructions. Only two negatives were no Loctite was packed with plates as listed (of course I had to go get some) & the printable instructions have black background. This may be able to be changed but I didn’t print because of that. So it could just be user error. The product is solid and very secure the way they designed it. It also follows the contour of the tank. I didn’t realize that it swept up in the rear until I put the plate together. I still have the engine skid plate to install this weekend so I will leave another review after that.

Skid plate adds protection I wanted . Kit is built well and fit nicely. The only thing I would suggest for the price you pay is that it should come with an extra threaded clip since attaching points are tight to get to and one clip during install slipped into the attaching point hole into frame of truck and I was not able to retrieve it for use. I ended up welding heavy wire to a flange nut to fish up in frame for attaching one mounting bracket. I had the same problem when installing the engine, transmission and transfer case skid plates

The skid plate for my 2022 F350 fit perfectly and was easy to install. Its a very sturdy plate secured with good hardware, I believe its gonna do the job, or at least give me piece of mind that I won't end up with a hole in my oil pan/filter.
